Choosing the Right Endorsement Credential and Category for You

Endorsement Overview:
The Infant Mental Health Endorsement® (IMH-E®), Early Childhood Mental Health Endorsement® (ECMH-E®), and Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Endorsement® (IECMH-E®) are designed to recognize professionals who meet specific requirements in work experience, education, training, leadership, and reflective supervision/consultation. Each endorsement is tailored to the age group and professional role it serves:

IMH-E®: Infant Mental Health Endorsement®

  • Focused on professionals working with pregnant people and infants/toddlers (ages 0–36 months) and their families.
  • Requires specialized competencies in infant mental health promotion, prevention, intervention, or macro-level practices.

ECMH-E®: Early Childhood Mental Health Endorsement®

  • Designed for professionals supporting children ages 3–6 and their families.
  • Emphasizes relationship-focused practice and competencies specific to the early childhood years in promotion, prevention, intervention, or macro roles.

IECMH-E®: Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Endorsement®

  • For professionals who meet the requirements for both IMH-E® and ECMH-E®.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive expertise across the continuum of infant and early childhood mental health.

Applicants must demonstrate achievement of the competencies outlined in the I/ECMH Competency Guidelines® relevant to their desired endorsement category. Each category aligns with the professional’s scope of practice, including promotion, prevention, intervention, or macro-level work.
