TRAINING IS FULL
Preparing to Parent: The Psychological Worlds of Expectant Mothers and Fathers
Co-sponsored by MI-AIMH and the IMH Statewide Committee, this training will review the psychosocial processes that mothers and fathers experience as they prepare to parent a new baby. Data from ongoing research with expectant mothers and fathers will be presented and existing empirically supported IMH interventions with mothers and fathers will be reviewed. Attachment and ecological theories that inform our understanding of adjustment during the perinatal period will be discussed, with an emphasis on pregnancy and early parenting in contexts of risk. Case material will illustrate central concepts in this area of study. Workshop participants will gain an understanding of normative relationships and relationship processes marked by disturbances and perturbations that manifest in the perinatal period and clinical techniques that can be employed to address relationship difficulties.
Accommodations: Hotel accommodations are provided through The Comfort in at Mt. Pleasant, for a reduced rate of $91.00 a night. A morning breakfast of bagels and yogurt and afternoon salad bar for lunch will be provided.
