First Loves Lost: Separation, Grief and Loss in the Early Years
Developing a secure attachment in the first year of life is a major developmental task that is a key foundational element for emotional health. This workshop will explore consequences of and useful therapeutic responses to the loss of significant relationships in the first years of life, whether through death or circumstances involving significant separation. Topics to be included in this training:
- How does a an infant or toddler grieve?
- Is a loss always traumatic to an infant or toddler?
- When does a separation become a loss?
- What can be done to assist recovery from such trauma in early life?
- How can other adults important in the life of the young, grieving child be supportive and how can they be included in treatment?
- Support for the practitioner
