Massie Campbell Scale of Mother-Infant Attachment Indicators During Stress

September 2, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Event Navigation

The Massie Campbell ADS is an observational tool that is scored by the clinician after a “brief” observation during a home visit.  The Massie Campbell ADS is a scale using 6 basic attachment modalities that provides indicators of mother/father/caregiver attachment.  The scale helps to screens for conditions as diverse as lack of infant responsiveness in autism or parental avoidance in child neglect.   The scale is designed for infants and toddlers (birth to 18 months) and their parents/caregivers.

The Massie Campbell ADS was developed by Dr. B. Kay Campbell, Ph. D. and Henry Massie, M.D.  In consultation with Dr. B. Kay Campbell, use of this tool during home visits has been affirmed.  The methodology for use in CMHSP Homebased Services for infants and toddlers will be discussed during the training. This training will also discuss use of the Massie Campbell ADS in treatment and how it can help guide clinician’s treatment recommendations and progress.  The Michigan Department of Community Health supports this observational tool as a best practice and encourages CMHSPs to have clinical staff trained to utilize the Massie Campbell ADS.
