The 2021 Virtual Early Childhood Learning Series with DWIHN

This VIRTUAL training series is sponsored generously by the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN). Therefore, training attendees need to be employed by a Detroit Wayne Infant Mental Health program and a registration code is required to register.

- Do NOT share this code – this training series is funded through DWIHN and is ONLY for those IECMH professionals within the Detroit CMH system.

Volunteers – We are looking for volunteers to assist during virtual trainings. MI-AIMH staff will still be on trainings but having a volunteer will be very helpful. Volunteer role would include:
- Being available to be on Zoom early and stay for the entirety of the training
- Ensuring that attendees full names are showing throughout training as part of taking attendance
- Assist trainers with technology and breakout rooms, where needed
- Being available to assist with question and answer and monitor the chat for trainers

An overview of Infant Mental Health theory, attachment, strategies, assessment, and interventions will be discussed and practiced. ***This training is for those new to the IMH field and have not attended this foundational three-day intro training yet. The Massie Campbell ADS is a scale using 6 basic attachment modalities that provides indicators of mother/father/caregiver attachment. The scale helps to screens for conditions as diverse as lack of infant responsiveness in autism or parental avoidance in child neglect. The scale is designed for infants and toddlers (birth to 18 months) and their parents/caregivers.	Registration is closed.

It is reliable, valid, easy to learn and practical to use. The PICCOLO is a tool that can be used to assess strengths, reveal needs, and monitor change. In this training participants will learn about the 4 domains of the PICCOLO and how to score the domains. Participants will learn how to identify how each parent shows their strengths and strategies and techniques to support positive parenting.	Registration is Closed

Pausing to Support the IMH Clinician During the COVID Pandemic In this training, Dr. Grant will help us pause and focus on ourselves, our colleagues, and our staff as we continue to work to support babies and their families during this ongoing pandemic. Our current realities and experiences will be examined, as will how we can avoid burnout and overwhelm during this time as we care for others while experiencing much of the same stressors ourselves. March 26, 2021 9am - 4pm	Pamela Crljenica, LMSW, IMH-E®	Understanding the Impact of Retained Reflexes on the Attachment Bond: A Guide for the Infant Mental Health Practitioner The field of Infant Mental Health has long understood the critical importance of the infant-parent relationship to all learning and development. But what if something is interfering with that relationship that the field has yet to recognize? Infant Mental Health professionals have likely experienced the emotional and behavioral challenges associated with retained reflexes in the children and parents they serve without even realizing it. So, how does it impact the ability of the parent and child to build a secure attachment bond if reflexes, specifically Fear Paralysis and Moro, are retained? In this full day training, we will explore the role of early childhood trauma on reflex retention, learn how to detect if reflexes are retained and interfering with the attachment bond, and identify what you as an Infant Mental Health practitioner can do about it. Parts 1 & 2: April 23 & 30 9am - 1pm Part 3: July 16, 2021 9am - 12pm	Jennifer DeSchryver, Psy.D., IMH-E®	Relationship-Focused Play Therapy: Working with Preschoolers & Caregivers This virtual training will be offered in three parts: Part I will focus on the development of play in 0-6 year olds to provide a framework for understanding our observations of play. In Part II we will deepen our understanding of therapeutic play and how to integrate the principles of play therapy and infant mental health as a preferred intervention with 3-6 year olds and their caregivers. Part III will provide an opportunity to come back together after time to put the training ideas into practice in order to ask follow-up questions and listen to 2 case presentations to help illustrate the work. We will consider the different ways we can approach hard conversations depending on personality, reflective capacity, our own comfort with conflict etc. Be ready to dive into conversation around power dynamics and relationships. Stein, MS, MSW, LMSW	Holding Space for All the Ghosts in the Nursery: The Application of Trauma-Informed Parts Work to Infant Mental Health Practice IMH therapists are constantly challenged to recognize, welcome, and participate in co-regulation of the parent-baby dyad. Yet, when a caregiver carries the burden of intergenerational or complex trauma into the nursery, the IMH therapist may feel disoriented or overwhelmed by the confusing and seemingly contradictory thoughts, emotions, and behaviors of the caregiver. The model of structural dissociation teaches that early attachment trauma can contribute to the fragmentation of self, so that various nervous system states (fight, flight, freeze, submit and attach impulses) might be easily triggered and yet challenging to regulate or integrate. Learning to track and resource the parts of self that correspond to these nervous system states can support both the therapist and client’s ability to reliably regulate into an optimal arousal zone - “window of tolerance” - a critical foundation of all subsequent therapeutic work. In this 6-hour workshop you will be introduced to trauma-informed parts work and the clinical application of the model for IMH. A combination of didactic learning and experiential exercises will allow for a deepened and embodied experiential learning.	Registration is Closed

This training will address steps to take when instances of intimidation, racial aggressions and racism, violence, and threats occur in a session. This training is for both IMH Home Visitors and Supervisors, as there will be discussion around the supervisor’s role in promoting all aspects of safety.
