I and Thou: Trauma, Representations, and Reflective Capacity

November 13, 2015 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

| $10.00 – $40.00

Event Navigation

Hosted by the SW chapter, this training will highlight the translation of research into practicality and field application as they’re applied to relationships and practice. This training will break down the concept of inter-generational relationship trauma and representation using Alissa Huthbock’s research findings. Attendees will gain a greater depth of understanding about the effects of relational trauma on mothers and their infants during the transition to parenthood. They will understand different components of the caregiving system (e.g., representations, behavior) and how historical attachment experiences influence the caregiving system. They will also learn about an important clinical tool that can aid in understanding these influences on mothers’ representations of the baby before and after giving birth. Finally, participants will reflect about their own histories and their own representational styles (i.e., their strategies for organizing experiences and understanding attachment relationships) as they relate to IMH work and participation in reflective supervision.

Presenter: Dr. Alissa Huthbocks, PhD, Associate Professor at Eastern Michigan University

CEU’S: This training will offer 5.5 credits in SW CEU’S
