Parenting Under Siege: Early development, parenting and IMH services in the context of intimate partner violence

Supporting families exposed to violence can be professionally and personally challenging. Using a trauma informed lens, this workshop will provide the theoretical and empirical foundations that inform our work with young children and families exposed to intimate partner violence. IMH treatment models that are sensitive to work with young children and caretakers experiencing trauma will be described. There will be opportunities to reflect on our own responses to this work including experiences of secondary trauma and a discussion about ways to maintain, or regain, psychological and emotional health in the context of this important work. He’s going to do 1.5 hours of training on the second day of my training.  On the second day, David J. H. Garvin, LMW, BISC-MI Chair, Head of Battering Intervention Services Coalition of Michigan will join us for 1.5 hours. Mr. Garvin will focus on helping us understand the psychology of perpetrators and on safety issues.
