Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority and MI-AIMH – Early Childhood Learning Series
Finding the Words When a Very Young Child Has Experienced Trauma
Because play is the language of children, clinicians are required to understand and “speak” the language of play. This training will explore how infant mental health clinicians can put words to the traumatic experiences of infant and pre-verbal children. Because parents are essential in helping children gain or recover a sense of safety, it is imperative that we comprehend and contain the parent’s experience of the child’s trauma as well. We will address ways to assist parents to see, understand, and respond to post-traumatic play.
