Reflective Supervision for Preschool IMH Clinical Work

Infant Mental Health services for families with 3-6 year olds are a growing population with unique needs.  This training will explore issues with preschool child development, attachment, dyadic play therapy, and triadic parent-child-therapist issues.  The similarities and differences in providing reflective supervision for this population will be explored.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to identify domains of development in typically developing children 3 years through age 6
2. Participants will explore attachment styles and internal working models during the preschool period
3. Through the use of videos and case examples, attendees will increase their observation and assessment skills regarding parent – preschool communication – such as verbal, non-verbal, play,  and behavioral manifestations
4. Participants will explore transference and countertransference within both the parent-child relationship as well as within the clinician- family and clinician – supervisor relationship
5. Ports of entry and triadic relationship issues will be explored as a way to address preschool child/parent’s developmental-relational needs
6. A dyadic play assessment – “Pathway to Play and Healing” – will be introduced and used to identify strategies and interventions for the parent – preschooler IMH treatment

IMH Endorsement® – Will count towards the requirements for the MI-AIMH Endorsement®

Licensed Professional Counselors – NBCC Hours – Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health (MI-AIMH) has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No.6867.  Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.  MI-AIMH is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
