The Governor released his first budget proposal on Thursday. It includes tax changes, budget cuts and changes in the way we fund many critical programs. The Governor also presented indicators of success against which he will be assessing the success of public programs. Michigan’s Children will provide information to you next week as we understand the proposals better, and connect you with critical legislators and legislative committee meetings where budget proposals will be discussed and adjusted. Much is happening at the federal level too. Keep connected!
In the meantime, check out our 2011 Legislative and Administrative Policy Agenda here. We’ll be assessing how well the
Governor’s proposal helps to provide children in Michigan what they need:
- To be born healthy and have access to health care services.
- To be raised by parents or caregivers who have the supports they need to be their children’s first and best teachers.
- To receive a high quality education that begins in early childhood and extends through a career that leads to economic self-sufficiency.
Michigan’s Children will be urging policymakers through the budget debates to support reforms that create strategic investments in children from the cradle to career. We hope you’ll join us.
