First Feelings: The Development of Attachment and Self-Regulation

Social-Emotional development during the first three years impacts a child for the rest of their life.  Learning how to trust and relate to others is an essential task.  This training will explore the milestones in the emotional development for infants and toddlers.  We will look at what a baby and parent accomplish in the attachment phases of symbiosis and separation in order to understand a child’s progress from one stage to another.

NEW! Licensed Professional Counselors – NBCC Hours – Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health (MI-AIMH) has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No.6867. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. MI-AIMH is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:

  • Understand early development and infant-family relationships.
  • Articulate both the infant’s and parents’ perspectives within the context of relationships.
  • Observe parent and infant interactions.
  • Understand the stages of attachment and recognize infant behavior in theses stages.
  • Understand the stages of separation and recognize infant behavior in these stages.
  • Keep the baby central to work with infants, young children and their families.

Registration Information

Registration Fees: MI-AIMH Members – $70, Non-Members – $80 continuing education – $10

Registration deadline: August 1, 2018. This training is limited to 50 seats. Registration is first come, first serve.

Cancellation policy: Notice of cancellation must be submitted in writing no later than 7 days prior to the event for a refund to be issued.

IMPORTANT: Agency checks should be made payable to MI-AIMH. Please indicate the names of all staff attending the training.
